How is the warmest months are July and August while the longest day is June?
One might expect the longest day the peak summer in terms of temperatures. Why is not it?
The reason for the warmer weather of the year on average is about 6 weeks after the summer solstice because there is a respective lag between when the maximum amount of radiation Solar incident occurs and the surface of the Earth responds to its maximum value of outgoing radiation (heat). The absorption of solar radiation and the response heating is not instantaneous, but takes some time. As the warmer weather of the normal day is not noon but mid afternoon.
