Where can I find a place that will convert very old family pictures on tin into a paper portrait?
My grandmother has done an immense amount of research into our family history. Her collection includes some pictures on tin. She'd like to make them into portraits; update them. I don't think she has a particular size in mind, even if they were like normail 4x6's on paper. Any ideas of where to begin looking??
One thing that I've successfully used in the past to copy old photos (tin or not) that can't be scanned is a copy stand. Basically it is an upright pole to which you can attach your camera and that holds the camera perpendicular to the table so you can take an undistorted picture of whatever you lay on the table beneath it. Digital cameras work great and you can reprint the pictures in whatever size you want. Better, but often quite expensive stands have a base, but there are some folding stands that I've seen for only around $30. (Search on the web for "copy stand" and you will see many examples at all different prices.) If you don't want to buy a stand for this purpose (how often would you use it?), any photography store should have a stand and can make the copy for you, and they have better lighting so will probably do a better job than you can do at home even with a stand.
