Question about 19th century bronze sculpture?
How can I determine (without a professional) whether a bronze sculpture was be made by Antoine-Louis Bayre or his son Alfred Bayre? The signature is Bayre. I am aware that there was a time when Alfred signed his pieces as well as his father Bayre. Suggestions? In this case, the piece is similar in nature to Panther of Tunis. So while I agree with you in general, the room while I watch Static perhaps by Antony. It's part of my confusion.
I do not know what the topic of your bronze sculpture is, but it does not matter. You will be able to determine who is who, by stylistic comparison. I hope that answers your question. I noted your comment. You say you do not want to decide by a specialist in this period, but exactly what you should do. The major auction houses - Sotheby's and Christie as assess the work for free - the reason being that it is hoped that if the owner sells they will sell to them. She deserves to be in contact with them.
